Donate Unused Items

As much as you would like to keep all your clothes forever, unfortunately your closet has limited space. This means that unused items have to go in order to make room for your favourite clothes. Go through all of your clothes and pull out items that you don’t use. If you’re not sure what you use, try hanging your clothes with the hanger facing the opposite direction. When you use an item, hang it up correctly. After a couple weeks or months, clothes that are still facing the opposite direction can be donated.

Repurpose What You Have

Once you’ve donated items you don’t use, you can repurpose things you already have in order to get your closet organized. One great way to do this is to use old shower curtain rings to organize your scarves. You can also use a pop tab slipped onto a hanger to hang two or more items together. This is a great way to keep an outfit item together, allowing you to grab what you need without searching through your entire closet. It also saves on hanging space without needing to invest in expensive hangars. You can get other re-purposing ideas for your closet on sites such as Pinterest.

Buy an Organizer

After donating old clothes and repurposing items you already have, you might notice that your closet still isn’t as organized as you’d like. Since you’ve already saved money following the first two steps, you can then decide how much money you’d like to spend on an organizer. If you notice that you have way too many shoes, you can designate funds towards a cheaper shoe organizer. If it’s belts and accessories that are cluttering your closet, try to find a storage tote with drawers that will fit in your closet. This will help you keep your closet organized while sticking to your budget.
