About the Materials Needed to Make Toilet Roll Snowmen

Toilet Rolls – Save up your toilet paper rolls throughout the year and set aside in a crafting bin.

Glue – For adult crafting and holiday displays you may want to use hot glue, otherwise regular tacky glue or school glue is fine.

White paint – You will need white acrylic paint if your cardboard rolls are brown. Sometimes we get white rolls and those can be used as-is.

Paintbrush – You will want a medium sized craft paint brush for the white paint.

Paint pens – We used paint pens to draw on the faces. I really like the medium tip Posca paint pens we used. You could also use more acrylic paints and a smaller craft brush instead.

Felt – We used colourful felt to make the scarves. I like the pop of colour and cozy feeling but you could also use any fabric scraps you have on hand. Even material from socks missing their mate can work well here!

Pipe Cleaners – We used vibrant coloured pipe cleaners to make the earmuff bands.

Pom poms – You can use any pom poms you like here but I think glitter pom poms give the snowmen a lot of character and more of a winter feeling.

Variations on Toilet Roll Snowmen

There are so many ways to create your toilet paper roll snowman.

  • Instead of making earmuffs, use matching material from the scarves to make toques for your cardboard snowman! Kids socks make great hats. Cut off the toe material for making the scarf and tie off the ends to make it look like a toque. Easy and great way to repurpose socks without their mates!
  • You can also get more creative with the materials used to make these tp tube snowmen. For example, you can use black beans or buttons for the eyes and their buttons.
  • Instead of drawing on the eyes or using black beans, you could also use googly eyes!
