The Sweet Reads Box is a brand new monthly book subscription box for Canadians that sends you everything you need for some quality “me” time delivered right to your door. Each box includes a bestselling novel, a delicious beverage and sweet treat to enjoy while reading, and an item that connects with the novel.
Each monthly box is carefully curated to give you a perfectly sweet reading experience! I really like that it gives you the opportunity to read a new book without having to search for yourself.
Tucked inside the box is an adorable postcard featuring a momma elephant and her baby with an Agatha Christie quote. The entire postcard has been carefully crafted from image to quote in order to complement the themes of the novel chosen for the month. I love that the Sweet Reads Box puts so much care into the little details like that.
The flip side of the postcard details not only the included pieces but also some information about why the novel was chosen to be included and how each piece fits into the theme. This is seriously so cool, it gets you right into the mood to dive into the novel and enjoy your sweet treats.
So let’s take a look at what is in the first (September) Box!
September’s novel pick – Fierce Kingdom (It was Indigo’s Book Club pick for July).
“The zoo is nearly empty as Joan and her four-year-old son soak up the last few moments of playtime. They are happy, and the day has been close to perfect. But what Joan sees as she hustles her son toward the exit gate minutes before closing time sends her sprinting back into the zoo, her child in her arms. And for the next three hours — the entire scope of the novel — she keeps on running.
Joan’s intimate knowledge of her son and of the zoo itself — the hidden pathways and under-renovation exhibits, the best spots on the carousel and overstocked snack machines — transform her into the hero she and her son need to stay a step ahead of danger.
A masterful thrill ride and an exploration of motherhood itself — from its tender moments of grace to its savage power — Fierce Kingdom asks where the boundary is between our animal instinct to survive and our human duty to protect another. For whom should a mother risk her life?”
I loved this sweet treat – a custom printed sugar cookie from Enticing Cakes – a small bakery located in Peterborough – featuring the Sweet Reads Box logo.
I love tea and the flavour and scent of this one really does conjures up memories of my mother and her summer garden filled with roses. I honestly don’t think they could have found a better pairing than “A Mother’s Love” from Tea-Gram.
Of course, to brew your cup of tea you might need a tea steeper and Fred “The Big Brew” fits the bill perfectly all while working perfectly to suit the story.
I love Foxy Originals jewellery and I was super excited to find this Foxy Originals necklace pretty, Canadian-made, lead-free necklace inside the box. What an amazing surprise!
It features a quote from E.E. Cummings and again was chosen based on how it fit into the story.
Overall, I am extremely impressed with just how well thought out the Sweet Reads Box was, and loved the fabulous pieces included that perfectly complement the chosen novel. Absolute perfection.
What I really appreciated though was that the pieces included are useful and high quality instead of just a bunch of little trinkets that end up in the trash or cluttering my living area. Instead I can actually enjoy them while reading Fierce Kingdom.
A month-to-month subscription is $49.99 plus taxes and shipping but sign up for 3 or 6 months at a time for a great discount – as low as 43.99 plus taxes and shipping. You can also sign up for the Sweet Reads Box newsletter to get a 10% discount off your 3 or 6 month subscription. In my opinion? Totally worth it for a carefully curated box of treats and some sweet “me time” plus the box I received had a value of $75 which makes it so worth it!
One Canadian Frugal Mom Eh reader will win their own Sweet Reads Box valued at $64.95 (box price + shipping). Giveaway is open to residents of Canada 18+ and ends on October 29th at 11:59 pm EST. See Giveaway Tools form for entry and t&c.
