How to Keep Doing You: 9 Powerful Motivational Strategies for Parents

Something I think most parents struggle with is juggling work and home life without losing their sense of self and without neglecting their own needs. We often talk about juggling work and home life but rarely do we talk about strategies for also getting in some much needed self care so that we can be the best version of ourselves.

As a parent, especially if you are a new parent, you might really struggle with not feeling like yourself and it is completely normal. Normal but maybe not healthy or OK. Thankfully you can change that. You can actively work on just being yourself in addition to being a parent.

Here are 9 Powerful Motivational Strategies to keep yourself uplifted and ready to stick to your goals, reach for your dreams, and to take better care of yourself. It’s time for you to do you.

How to Keep Doing You: 9 Powerful Motivational Strategies for Parents

Learn to Say No

This was a hard lesson for me, and one I learned only recently. I used to have a hard time saying no to things, my fear of missing out would kick in hard. It got to the point where I was spending large amounts of my time doing things I just didn’t want to do, and I started to feel very apathetic about things I once enjoyed. After a conversation with a friend, I realised I needed to stop worrying about what would happen if I said no because saying no meant I would be able to say yes to the stuff I actually have an interest in.

Go Outside

Put in the effort to go outside every day. Whether that means you go for a walk or simply sit with a coffee on the patio, you will enjoy a boost of energy and a heightened sense of well-being.

Exercise

Exercise is a great stress buster, and it provides many health benefits. Even just a quick morning walk will make a difference in your day and help you feel more like yourself.

Unplug

Unplug from technology for awhile. Most people these days grab their phone the second they wakeup and keep it with them at all times. The thing is that this generally leads to work and work can wait 5 minutes while you live your life a little.

Sleep More

One way many of us try to juggle all our hats is to skip on sleep leaving our bodies unable to fully function.  Sleep is necessary and 7.5 hours of sleep a night is a goal you should be aiming for to not only feel better, but to be better as well.

Enjoy your Weekend

Unplug from work. Do not bring work home with you. Take time instead to enjoy all the things you love doing. Spend more time with your family, head to the spa, participate in hobbies and activities you enjoy,

Be More Forgiving

Stop being so hard on yourself when something goes wrong. Allow yourself the same love, compassion, and respect that you would give your children. Don’t you think it is time to stop being harder on yourself than you would be on anyone else.

Don’t get me wrong, being humble is important, but so is recognising your own self worth. Affirm to yourself that you are fabulous. That you have accomplished so much. Do not dwell on any failures and instead allow yourself to enjoy your accomplishments.

Laugh More

Laughter is the best medicine. Laughing can actually provide health benefits including lowering stress and improving your immune system. It can also help promote an increased sense of well-being.

Drink More Water

Your body and mind are important and they both need to be kept in good shape.  Drinking water will help keep you hydrated, less hungry, refreshed and is an important step in living a healthier life style.
