My family just spent an amazing weekend at Tremblant Ski Resort in Québec and I’m so excited to share with you some of the highlights in the hopes it may help you plan your own trip.

Tremblant is a Ski Resort located on Mont Tremblant in the Laurentian mountains of Québec, here in Canada and it really does have something for everyone. My family is not a family of skiiers and after our trip I do think it is an ideal winter destination for those who are interested in the full Canadian winter experience. Whether you can ski or not.

Getting to Tremblant is stress free from the GTA and surrounding areas. You can fly in direct from Toronto to the Mont-Tremblant International Airport and catch a shuttle right to your hotel door.  It’s roughly an hour long flight making this a great option, especially when travelling with young children.

Activities

Tremblant offers a large number of activities that are perfect for the whole family including an indoor water park, ice skating, escape games and more. All activities can be booked via the Tremblant Activity Center. Here are some of the activities your family is sure to enjoy during the winter season at Tremblant:

Skiing

Skiing and snowboarding is obviously a hot activity at Tremblant. They have 96 ski trails in total for skiers and snowboarders of all levels.

Beginners 3 years of age and up are welcome at Tremblant and with group ski lessons available through the Tremblant Snow School with experienced and certified instructors, it really is an affordable place to learn for the whole family. You can also opt for private lessons through the ski school if you prefer to learn 1 on 1.

Keira, 5 and Ava, 3 both loved their ski lessons. They were really excited to get going down the bunny hill with their instructor. I had my own lessons at the same time but we were practising on the same hill so I was able to see their giant grins from time to time. Tremblant does use the Flaik™ GPS system which allows you to track where your kids are on the mountain at all times. This is such a great safety feature for kids!

My own lessons were amazing. The instructor was so friendly and patient, it really put me at ease so I could focus on learning the skills instead of panicking that I would do something wrong. Unfortunately on my second day I wasn’t feeling my best so I stuck to the beginner hill. Do I regret not just pushing through it and experiencing at least one of the trails during our stay? Absolutely!

Since our trip the girls have been asking when they can go skiing again so I definitely have a feeling this won’t be our first and last ski trip.

If you have younger toddlers or a child who is maybe tired out from skiing, Tremblant does offer a Kidz Club Daycare service with both indoor and outdoor facilities for children ages 1-6.  What a great way for parents to be able to enjoy some worry-free time on the mountain while their kids enjoy fun activities.

You can also rent all your equipment for skiing right at the base of the mountain from ski jackets to performance skis. Also available is ski valet service so you don’t have to lug your skis back and forth through the village. This is a service I would definitely recommend if you are skiing with children.

sleigh-ride

Sleigh Rides

On our first day we took the kids on a group sleigh ride driven by a team of horses through the Laurentian forest. It’s a fun tour complete with entertainment by a local guide complete with storytelling and folk songs. Midway through the ride we stopped for photos with the horses and much needed hot chocolate.

The girls adored the sleigh ride from start to finish, and Ava in particular was almost in tears from laughing so hard at the guide once he took out a jig doll and had it dancing on Keira’s hand. I don’t think I have ever heard her laugh so hard.

dogsledding

Dog Sledding

I would say that dogsledding was a family favourite activity during our stay at Tremblant. I’ve always wanted to go dogsledding but until this year I didn’t realise it was something you could do without having to go to the Arctic. Adults are able to participate in harnessing the dogs to the sleds and even drive their own team of Siberian Huskies through the forest trails. This is one experience you need to add to your bucket list.

The company that Tremblant works with to organise this activity is Expedition Wolf, and they are really quite amazing.  The guides have a palpable passion and love for their job and the dogs and I think that makes the experience just that much better.  They also take in rescued huskies and keep their retired dogs, which I think speaks volumes about the whole team. I think the value is there for the experience, but it is great to know that your money is also going to help care for these gorgeous, intelligent dogs.

As our group was harnessing the dogs for the ride you could see how truly excited the dogs were for a chance to go out for a run, and the interaction between the dogs was really interesting to see. Once we got going, the huskies took us through winding forest trails with small hills and valleys along the way.

t-bar

T-Bar

Located inside the Pedestrian village itself, T-Bar offers an interactive t-shirt shopping experience with a variety of different design techniques from hand painted to vinyl decals. We tried our hands at customizing our shirts with fabric paint. The girls were able to pick out their own pre-printed design and their own colours. Both opted for pearly shades of pink and blue – and then promptly mixed them into purple.

I think painting your own shirt delivers a ton of value; it is a fun experience, allows everyone to great creative and it’s a great way to make your own souvenir.

Tubing

Take advantage of complimentary “sliding evenings” when you stay at one of the participating hotels on the resort.  It’s a fun way to end the day and enjoy a great time with the entire family right at the base of the mountain!

Lodging

When it comes to lodging, there are numerous options available at the resort including plenty of hotels at the base and in the pedestrian village.  We enjoyed our stay at the Westin Resort & Spa Tremblant in a 2 bedroom suite.

If you are planning your stay with young children and you know they are not going to sleep easily in the same room as you, then it is so worth it to just go ahead and get a suite.

westin-suite 3

Typically when we have tried a room with two queens or even a room with one bedroom and a pull-out couch it has always resulted in nobody sleeping and everyone feeling miserable. Not this time. I am sure the busy days had something to do with it, but lights out and the girls were out in no time.

westin-suite

This left Anthony and I with the opportunity to unwind by the cozy fireplace before heading to our own super comfortable bed. It was basically miraculous and I have no doubt the fact that we all got a reasonable amount of sleep contributed towards how much we all enjoyed our time at Tremblant.

westin-suite 2

The suite itself affords all the comforts of home including a full kitchen with an oven and fridge stocked with dinnerware and cookware, a dining table, two bathrooms and and ample sized living room with the previously mentioned fireplace and a sofa-bed. Its a beautiful, clean space that makes unwinding after a busy day, easy to do.

westin-pool

The Westin Resort & Spa Tremblant is located right in the pedestrian village and offers an easy route to the slopes. We did really enjoy how accessible the village and the slopes were from our hotel. Guests are also able to take advantage of the outdoor heated saltwater pool and whirlpool bath. We didn’t get to experience the pool or bath but we did see plenty of others taking advantage of that particular amenity.

Overall our stay at the Westin was exceptional and we would definitely return and stay there again.

Food

I have always found that the dining experience at a resort will make or break a trip and at Tremblant you can find many delightful options that will please both grown up palates and the whims of little ones.

  french-onion-soup

Our first meal was lunch at Pizzatéria, and it was perfect for lunch with the kids. I started with a French Onion soup and I definitely do recommend Pizzatéria’s French Onion soup. They have definitely mastered the art of the sweet and salty broth with plenty of melty cheese and bread with just the right texture.

pizza

The girls ordered pepperoni pizza, while my husband ordered the deluxe vegetarian. I ordered a chicken pesto pizza with hot peppers. The pizzas are thin crust and arrive at your table piping hot.

coco-pazzo

Our first dinner was at Coco Pazzo which is a higher end (but still kid friendly) Italian restaurant with impeccable service. The kids ordered pasta with a bolognese sauce and my husband ordered the catch of the day – a delicious salmon steak over rice. I definitely chose well with the Filet mignon, it was absolutely perfectly cooked and full of flavour. The girls were thrilled to finish off dinner with some ice cream. This was easily my favourite meal during our stay, although all the food was quite good.

Our next dinner was at Le Shack which is located right at the top of the pedestrian village at the bottom of the slopes. The variety on the kids menu at Le Shack is pretty decent with 6 different options. Keira ordered a hotdog and fries while Ava ordered fish and chips. I ordered a brie burger and was really happy with the choice.  It is a bit dark and loud at dinner time (it is a sports bar afterall), so if that isn’t your thing, it may be a better option at lunch time.

roasted-red-pepper-soup

Our last meal was at Casey’s for lunch. Casey’s offers a nice variety of options and was Anthony’s favourite restaurant – he ordered a salad with grilled shrimp that he was raving about the rest of the day. I ordered a roasted red pepper soup which was phenomenal; I was tempted to ask for the recipe it was so good! The kids were thrilled to end their meal with chocolate ice cream and delighted to find that the waitress had surprised them with a worm in each one.

Pedestrian Village

At the base of the mountain is the Pedestrian village. It is not only home to lodging and dining options but also to shopping opportunities from ski gear to souvenirs and everything in between. It’s also completely charming and picturesque.

tremblant 3

It’s perfect for an evening stroll once the slopes are closed and if you are looking for a souvenir to bring home then you are sure to find something just right in one of the many little shops.

tremblant 4

We took the girls into Univers Toutou (make your own stuffed animal) during a walk through the village and I would definitely recommend it as a fun experience for kids and a great souvenir they will treasure for years to come. Keira picked out a rainbow puppy she named Suzie and Ava picked out a pink dragon she named Sparkles. They had a blast from start to finish.

tremblant-at-night

If you can, take the time to look around the village at night, it is absolutely gorgeous and smells amazing thanks to the snow and wood fires found throughout.

Mont Tremblant is less than a 4 hour drive for me and I have never been there. I'm not a skier but would love to try out the dog sledding.
