Stress Relief Teacup Candles

These stress relief teacup candles are made with a blend of essential oils meant to aid with stress relief. Not only are they great for bathtime, but they are a cute addition to any afternoon tea table.

The holiday season is upon us for the next couple weeks and most of us find this time of year stressful, even for those of us who adore Christmas.  I often find myself in need of a hot bath to relax in before Christmas eve and along with it  I like to burn scented candles for a little extra stress relief.

These teacup candles are adorable and so easy to make. I’m sharing with you a simple and relatively cheap method for making container candles that literally anyone can  make.  These stress relief teacup candles are made with a blend of essential oils meant to aid with stress relief.  Not only are they great for bathtime, but they are a cute addition to any afternoon tea table.

I found a set of 6 little teacup and saucers at the thrift store for about $3 and even found an unopened box of soy wax flakes for $4. Granted, you aren’t likely to get a deal like that on soy wax flakes but you definitely should be able to find a deal on the teacups! I usually wait for Michaels to put out a 40 or  50% off one regular price item coupon to get more expensive items like a huge box of soy wax flakes as they are usually around $30 for a 4lb box.

Stress Relief Teacup Candles

Materials:

Teacups
Soy wax flakes*
Wax dye (I used “Turqupise waters” from the brand Michaels carries)
Lemongrass essential oil
Lavender essential oil
pre-waxed wicks and clips (length depends on size of your teacup but 3″ should suffice)
Wax adhesive
Food Thermometer
Wooden skewers
Rubber Bands

*note: You will need 1 Cup soy wax flakes for every 1/2 cup water your teacup can hold.

Directions:

Prepare the wicks and clips by placing a dab of wax adhesive onto the bottom of the clips (the round metal tabs) and attaching the tabs to the centre of the bottom of the teacup.

Secure the wick between two skewers rested on the rim of the teacup. Wrap rubber bands around the ends to keep the wick in place and centred in the cup.

Boil water in a large saucepan and create a double boiler with another pan or heatproof bowl.  Add the soy wax flakes to the top pan or bowl and stir occasionally as wax heats and melts.

When the wax has melted and reached 160 degrees F (70 degrees C), remove the pan from heat and add drops of the dye to the wax, keeping in mind that it will appear much lighter when the wax has cooled.  Stir to combine.

Just before pouring the wax into the teacups, stir in the essential oils until you can smell them in the wax and then add a couple more drops. You want to do about a 50/50 blend of the two. Do not substitute essential oils as not all essential oils work in candles.

Carefully pour the melted wax into the teacups just below the bottom of the skewers. If there are air bubbles, tap the side of the cups with a spoon gently to release them.

Allow the candles to cool then trim the wick once completely set.
