There is something special about having a real Christmas tree during the holiday season. The smell of the tree permeates the house, bring fond memories to the forefront of your mind.

The holidays are a time to celebrate the magic of the season with family and friends. The holidays also often mean that it’s time to decorate your home for all those festive gatherings you have planned!

Unfortunately, it is easy for trees to dry out and die; however, there are some things you can do to help extend the life of your real Christmas tree.

The best thing you can do to extend the life of your real Christmas tree is to give it water. Especially the first few days, it’s vital to make sure that you constantly fill the stand with water. If your tree dries out from not having enough water, then the needles will fall off and the tree will die more quickly. In order to ensure that your tree has enough water, add water at least twice a day.

Get the Right Stand

Some Christmas tree stands only have a small water reservoir. Because your tree will need a lot of water, you’ll want to find the right stand that has a large water reservoir. This will help to guarantee that your tree has enough water and will help prevent you from needing to add water more than twice a day.

Choose a Spot Wisely

In addition to adding water each day, you can help keep your tree alive for longer by keeping it from drying out. To do this, you’ll want to keep your real Christmas tree away from an air source, especially a hot one. A heating vent or spot next to a drafty window will dry out your tree.

Freshly Cut Trunk

Real Christmas trees produce sap, which tends to cover any cuts on the tree trunk. When sap covers the wood on your Christmas tree, it prevents the tree of absorbing the water that is needed to keep it alive. Because of this, you’ll want to create a fresh cut on your tree trunk before putting it in the water stand.
