Read Anywhere with the Kobo Glo HD + Giveaway #KoboGloHD

Read Anywhere with the Kobo Glo HD

I’ve been an avid reader since I first picked up and read The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkein back in middle school.  Let’s just say that was well before the modern film adaptions!  After I read the Hobbit, I moved on to The Lord of the Rings, and then on to the Dragonlance series.  A friend gifted me the first book in another series as recommended by her dad.  Soon I had every single book from that series in my collection.  I then moved on to the books my parents had around.  Some I had to sneak to read like my dad’s Stephen King books.

Today I have two tall bookshelves crammed with books.  I am talking books stacked on each other in double rows.  I’ve been thinking about getting another bookshelf just to accommodate my growing collection except I have no where to put said bookshelf.  This is a serious problem guys.

I’ve been very skeptical about e-books and eReaders in general.  I felt I would miss the tactile experience of books or the musty smell of some of my old favourites. I swore I would never make the change. So when I was challenged to give the new Kobo Glo HD a try for 7 days I was still quite hesitant, but decided to give it a go.

I was immediately surprised by how compact, light and comfortable to hold the Kobo Glo HD is.  I dare say it is much lighter than a paperback, never-mind a hardcover book.  I love to read laying down in bed or on the couch or even outside on my chaise.   A challenge at best with actual books between my arms getting tired and just the awkwardness of holding a book open over your head to read.  I don’t know if I am alone in this, but its a real problem for me.  With the Kobo Glo HD though I only need one hand to read it that way and since its so small and light my arm does not tire as quickly.  Honestly, as soon as I realized I could do this, I was sold.

I always thought an eReader would make my eyes hurt from the glare or be too dull to easily read.   I have to say I am really impressed with the the Kobo Glo HD here too.  It features a book-like 6” HD Carta E Ink touchscreen with fully adjustable ComfortLight and the convenience of adjustable fonts, sizes and margins.  Just try and adjust the font size of your favourite book.  You can’t do it!

My other concern was that it wouldn’t be able to hold many books.  Clearly not a problem since it can store up to 3,000 eBooks in your “library”.  My bookshelves unfortunately cannot handle 3,000 books as much as I wish they could.  Another win for the Kobo Glo HD.

Being able to store that many books is going to come in handy since there is easy access to Kobo’s 24/7 eBookstore through Wi-Fi.  This might be dangerous for me, I already purchased a couple more books before the 7 days were even up!  There are millions of amazing eBooks right at your fingertips so you can start a new book whenever you like.

Currently I am reading All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr, a bestseller I picked up for my sister as a Christmas present and have been waiting to borrow because it sounded so good.  (It is, I definitely recommend it!)  Next will be In the Kingdom of Ice by Hampton Sides, another Christmas present but to my mom.  Don’t you hate when you have to wait on slow readers?    I also have The Book of Negroes by Lawrence Hill and Our Endless Numbered Days by Claire Fuller lined up.

I love that when I do run through my list of “must-reads” I can easily discover a great new read thanks to the personalized recommendations, free previews and reviews or just browsing the Kobo eBookstore.

I haven’t had a chance to test what the battery life is like but, apparently, the battery life is up to 2 months, so you can read an entire eBook on a single charge and enjoy the freedom of leaving your charger behind when you travel.Speaking of travel, it’s so small and easy to pack with you.  I’m heading to a blogger retreat in a couple weeks and looking forward to being able to just slip the Kobo Glo HD into my bag without having to fuss around with picking out a couple books and then realizing I need a bigger bag just to fit my books.

You can also download the Our Endless Numbered Days which is available on iOS, Android, Blackberry 10, Windows 8, Windows 8 Phone and for Desktop Computers.  It makes reading easy and accessible anywhere.  That means I can pick up my book from where I left off on the Kobo Glo HD and read it on my phone when I am waiting at the Dr’s Office.   You can read anytime, anywhere and on any device.  Awesome!

So after the 7 days, am I converted?  Yes, I will continue to use the Kobo Glo HD although I will also continue to enjoy my book collection – I think they are a perfect compliment for each other.

I have really fallen for the Kobo Glo HD. I am an avid reader on vacation and taking this along instead of 5 - 7 books is such a lifesaver.

I love my Kobo, it comes with me whenever I travel. I always read 2 books by the end of it. This one looks like my next upgrade!

I think if you can just get over the physical attachment to an actual book the Kobo is a great idea. This is evidenced by your over-capacity!
