How do you Mix Your Weetabix? #MyBixMix

When it comes to breakfast I love to keep it simple. When I was 16 I went on a trip to Cuba where I fell in love with the traditional Cuban breakfast of espresso with milk, fresh fruit and a simple piece of grilled bread.  It’s something I still enjoy most mornings myself although I usually trade in the Guava for a clementine instead and forgo the milk.  I also like to change it up from just buttered toast and enjoy a variety of different cereals with my fruit.

Weetabix is an excellent choice when it comes to breakfast as it is about as simple as it gets when it comes to cereal.  Made with just four simple, high-quality ingredients, Weetabix is a wholesome source of energy, packed with whole grains, vitamins and minerals as well as being high in fibre with only two grams of sugar and 130 calories.  You better bet it gives me a good start to the day and gets me ready for a day full of blogging, chasing after my 1 and 3 year old and everything else that comes my way.

Healthy eating is a hot topic these days and there is so much debate about what is good and what is not.  I think one thing we can all agree on is that limiting sugar intake is an important part of keeping healthy given it’s association with both obesity and diabetes.

Recently the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee in the U.S. recommended a limit of 10 teaspoons a day of sugar. In Canada, Health Canada is proposing changes to the Nutrition Facts label, which would more clearly identify added sugars.  They are also proposing establishing a Daily Value of 100 grams for total sugar consumption.

Remember now, Whole-grain Weetabix has only 2 g of sugar per serving which is only 2$ of the daily value, leaving you with plenty of room to make sure you come in well under the limit on a daily basis if you are careful for the rest of the day.

Weetabix is also so easy to customize with different flavours to suit your own style.  Personally I think there is nothing better than mixing my ‘Bix with blackberries and honey.  So simple but so good.  Of course with a little creativity the options are endless.  Here are some great ideas to get you thinking.

Strangely enough I've never even tried Weetabix, though both my mother and twin sister loved it - they used to just eat them with milk and a sprinkling of sugar.

This is one of my favorite cereals. I like it warm with bananas!

I love your ideas on how to 'jazz' up one's weetabix. My husband loves this cereal and, because it is so low in sugar, I like to serve it for breakfast. Now I have more ideas on how to present it. Thank you.
