This Chalkboard Tray is a fun and functional DIY project that that works as a cute chalkboard sign or use it as is for a chalkboard food serving tray!

This Chalkboard Tray is a fun and functional DIY project that is perfect for so many uses.  Throw it on a stand and you suddenly have a cute chalkboard sign or use it as is for a chalkboard serving tray you can easily label foods with!

For an even more frugal craft, you could even use an old baking sheet for a similar look

Materials:

Rust-o-leum Chalkboard spray paint: $4-$5 at major retailers

Metal tray – you can find simply ones at Dollar Tree for only $1. I found mine at a local thrift shop for only $1.

Chalk – less than $0.50 at Walmart and Target

Directions:

#1. Make sure your tray is clean. Lay down a large piece of paper or an old sheet in a well ventilated area such as a garage. Spray the Rust-o-leum paint evenly over the front of the tray covering it evenly and completely with paint, (see photo).

#2. Let dry several hours and repeat the step one evenly coating it again with paint. Again, let try for several hours – I’d even suggest overnight. You don’t want it chipping or smudging if it’s not completely dry.

Repeat the process on the back side of the tray.

That’s it – simply and easy! To clean, if you cannot find a chalkboard eraser (they are HARD to find now, trust me, I looked), simply use a damp paper towel or even baby wipes to clean the tray.
