Most of the products in the coupon book can easily be found in your local grocery store or pharmacy.

The Healthy Shopper Fall 2014 Picks

This seasons picks include a noteworthy snack food that’s school safe and you’d never guess it’s packed with veggies like spinach, carrots, tomatoes and beets; there’s a new yogurt with Chia; some gluten-free baking mixes; organic pasta sauce for a quick and easy meal idea; and, a couple of natural remedies for cold and flu season.

Olympic Dairy is an old favourite for me.  I was first introduced to them by The Healthy Shopper several seasons ago and it quickly became our favourite brand of yogourt.  This season the Healthy Shopper is showcasing their new Chia yogourt, the first yogourt on the market with chia seeds. Chia seeds are really on trend right now thanks to their super food status as a great source of protein, fibre and healthy Omega 3 oil.  It is great for the heart and cholesterol health and when combined with the preniotic and probiotic benefits of Olympic yogourt you get an extra little immunity boost.  The delicious flavours available in the new Chia line from Olympic Dairy include strawberry, vanilla, plain and pandan.

Pamela’s Products always offers great gluten-free options that actually taste great.  Up this season are their wheat and gluten-free Sugar Cookie Baking Mix and All-Purpose Flour Artisan Blend.  The All-Purpose Flour Artisan Blend can be used in any of your favourite recipes and no one will be the wiser!  I love the idea of the Sugar Cookie Baking Mix, just mix it up, roll it out, cut it out and bake.  Ava has her first birthday party coming up and with several people in our lives who suffering from allergies, gluten intolerance and Crohn’s, it is important to be able to offer an alternative that not only looks great with the rest of our theme but that also tastes great.

The Healthy Shopper has also revisited Simply Natural and this time they have chosen the top four best-selling organic Pasta sauces because they’re low in sodium, gluten-free, and non-GMO.  The top four include delicious Tomato and Basil, Tomato and Roasted Garlic, Fra Diavolo and Vodka Cream Pasta Sauce.  I love that these taste homemade and the price is actually on par with the cost of regular pasta sauces so there really is no excuse not to at least give them a go.

The Healthy Shopper Fall 2014 Picks

Made Good Organic Granola Bars and Granola Minis made the list this season as they’re nut-free, making them a school safe lunchbox essential and each bar or package of minis is made with whole grains and a vegetable powder equivalent to the nutrients found in one serving of vegetables.  This yummy snack meets a minimum of 20% of an adult’s required daily intake of vitamins A, B1, B6 C, D and E coming from the vegetable sources. Made Good Organic Granola Bars and Minis are non-GMO, wheat-free, vegan and Kosher.  Flavours include chocolate banana, chocolate chip, strawberry, apple cinnamon, and mixed berry. My personal favourite was easily the chocolate banana in both the bars and the minis.  These are so delicious and I love the texture of the whole grains as compared to the typical puffed rice based granola bars.

This fall, if you’re looking for a way to prevent and treat colds and influenza, bacterial, fungal and viral infections, The Healthy Shopper selected and recommends Allimax, a high-quality herbal supplement designed to help maintain a healthy natural defense system. Allicin found in garlic, is the ‘mother’ substance and responsible in total or in part for many of the properties attributable to garlic. The sophisticated refinement process of Allimax allows allicin to be captured and delivered to where your body needs it.  Allimax has all the benefits of garlic locked in an odour-free, 100% vegetarian capsule.

Finally, this season The Healthy Shopper has chosen Hyland’s  Homeopathic Baby Tiny Cold Tablets and Baby Cough Syrup.  Its Baby Tiny Cold Tablets  are deal for cold sniffles, runny noses and congestion, and of course parents can be assured that they’re natural.  Hyland’s Baby Cough Syrup is naturally sweetened and a safe way to soothe babies six months and up, by relieving the harsh symptoms of coughing.  Both Keira and Ava came down with an awful cold shortly after receiving the picks.  We already use Hyland’s pretty often but hadn’t tried the Baby Tiny Cold Tablets.  I mixed a couple up with some water and gave it to both girls according to the dosage instructions and it certainly seemed to make them at least a little more comfortable.
