Don’t Miss This in Alaska

Don't Miss This in Alaska on your next Vacation. This is a must read before you make your travel plans!

Alaska is one of those destinations that is on a lot of people’s must visit lists. It is a very large state so you want to know a few things you would like to experience while you are there. There are things to do if you are an adventurer, an angler, or just want to sit back and take in all the beauty that surrounds you. Here is a list of quick Don’t Miss This in Alaska tips for you.

Glaciers

You can drive right up to glaciers and see them flowing into the ocean or creating lakes. There are ice-hiking adventures where you can go out over the ice. If you are a little more adventurous, look into ice climbing down into a crevasse and really seeing the glaciers up close.

Fishing

If you are an angler or just starting out fishing, Alaska is the place to go to catch Salmon and Halibut. People come from all over the world to fish the Kenai River where the salmons spawn June through August. In the Gulf of Alaska you can fish for Halibut, anywhere from 30-200 pounds!

The Animals!

Whether you love big land animals like Grizzly Bears or Moose, or prefer large Humpback Whales and Stellar Sea Lions, Alaska has you covered. Not only can you go to Kodiak Island and see the largest population of Grizzlies, but you can also spot them eating their favorite dandelion flowers on the side of the road during the summer. Moose are around every corner in Alaska and if you visit in June you might just be lucky enough to see a cow with her fuzzy red calf.

Iditarod Race

Come winter the one race that is the talk all over Alaska is the Iditarod. You can only compete is this dog sledding race if you have previously qualified. It lasts over two weeks over hundreds of miles of a grueling course. If you visit Alaska in the summer make sure to check out the historic post of the original Iditarod in Seward where they have a plaque commemorating Mile 0.
