German Chocolate Cupcakes are a delicious chocolate dessert you will find yourself baking over and over again!

German Chocolate Cake actually did not originate in the country of Germany.  The original recipe called for a specific brand of baking chocolate, which was named after the man who developed it, Sam German.

Growing up my mom did most of the baking, however on occasion my dad would pull together an amazing dessert.  Chocolate haystack cookies, chocolate mousse and my favourite – German Chocolate cake!  There is just something about this decadently sweet cake with its satisfying texture that I can’t get enough of and that is saying a lot as I used to hate cake until I got pregnant with Keira.

The best way I could think of enjoying the flavour of German Chocolate Cake without actually baking an entire cake was to adapt the recipe to make cupcakes!  I dare you to try and eat just one, these are just so addictively good I have a hard enough time trying not to eat more than two at a time.

Ingredients:

1 Box Chocolate Cake Mix + ingredients to prepare
1 Can evaporated Milk
1/2 Cup Butter
4 Egg Yolks, Slightly beaten
3/4 Cup Granulated Sugar
1/4 Cup Brown Sugar
2 Cups shredded Coconut
1 cup chopped pecans
3 Oz Semisweet Chocolate pieces

Directions:

Prepare cupcakes according to the instructions then allow to cool completely.

In a medium saucepan mix the evaporated milk, butter, egg yolks, granulated sugar and brown sugar over nedium-low heat, stirring constantly until slightly thickened (about 8 minutes.)

Stir in coconut and pecans then remove from the heat.

Allow the miture to cool and thicken further, stirring occasionally.  If possible, cool in the refrigerator.

Once cooled, spoon over each cupcake.

Next, in a small microwaveable bowl, microwave the chocolate for 30 seconds and stir.  Repeat with 15 second intervals until chocolate is melted and smooth.

Drizzle chocolate over cupcakes.

12 fl oz. Depends on the size of box mix that you use (or your own chocolate cupcake recipe) - the topping should early cover 24-30 cupcakes.

I think cupcakes are the way to go. We are two in our family. If I make a batch of cupcakes, I can frost them, or not, and freeze the excess so they are fresh when served. This sounds and looks like a delicious, chocolately treat. Thank you for the recipe.
