Crying Baby - The Cost to Hush a Little Baby is around $5000!

Hush, little baby, don’t say a word, Mama’s gonna buy you a mockingbird.
And if that mockingbird don’t sing, Mama’s gonna buy you a diamond ring.
And if that diamond ring turns brass, Mama’s gonna buy you a looking glass.
And if that looking glass gets broke, Mama’s gonna buy you a billy goat,
And if that billy goat doesn’t pull, Mama’s gonna buy you a cart and bull.
And if that cart and bull turn over, Mama’s gonna buy you a dog named Rover.
And if that dog named Rover won’t bark, Mama’s gonna buy you a horse and cart.
And if that horse and cart fall down, Well you’ll still be the sweetest baby in town.

I am sure everyone has sung this lullaby or had it sung to them.  Have you ever really thought about the cost to shut a baby up according to this song? You might be surprised.  I researched average prices for these items and generally listed the cheapest prices so this could get even crazier if you were going top of the line for your little one!

Mockingbird – $150-$200
Diamond Ring – $120 and up
Looking Glass – $20 and up
Billy Goat – $150
Cart and Bull – $1400
Dog – $150
Horse & Cart – $3000

Total Approximate Cost:  $4990

So anyone really that desperate to get their baby to hush up?

Bwhahahaah. Man that is expensive. I wonder what the prices were when this song was actually written. Man I hate inflation!

lol I had days where that wouldn’t work, I was given a swing by a friend of mine though and that always did it.

Wow, I’ve never thought of that! I sang this song to my children when they were young. I want to hug this baby and make it all better!

So cute. I would not want to have a baby now. Mine are grown. Way to expensive

lol. Funny!

A dry diaper, some milk and a walk around the house in our Moby Wrap works every time for my baby though. $10-$20 for a pocket diaper (less for a prefold and cover) and $55 for the Moby. Milk is free. ;) You’ve got me thinking about all this in a whole new way.
