| Who doesn’t like a Vintage Ad Now and Then! |
Something I want to try this year is to try out alternatives to my usual beauty products to see how they compare. Now I am not saying I want to replace my awesome usual brand of shampoo or soap, but I am interested in trying something new, and finding out if it is more cost effective or not.
I was looking through various do it yourself Shampoo recipes and found this one to try out: http://wikitalks.com/2013/01/how-to-make-a-shampoo-for-dry-and-damaged-hair/
The ingredient list almost immediately made me rethink my plans of making my own shampoo! Why bother buying 15 different items to replace just one? I do realise, however, that this is a great way to avoid toxic chemicals and additives in commercial shampoo so I am willing to give it a shot. Modern, commercial shampoo wasn’t around until the 1930s anyway, so if people managed to make their own shampoo prior to that I should be able to as well, right!
What I love the most about this recipe is that it sounds like it smells amazing. How invigorating would it be to wash your hair with a shampoo so vibrantly citrus smelling! What a wake up that would be (something I need most mornings.)
Aside from the scent and the lack of harmful chemicals, this recipe is also to help with damaged hair and dandruff. I currently have two favourite shampoo brands I have to switch around with each hair wash. One is for moisturising my long, thick and curly hair that tends to damage easily and the other is for dandruff as my scalp suffers badly in the winter thanks to the dry air. How awesome it would be if I could make my own amazing smelling shampoo that can take care of all my hair issues!
This has got me thinking about looking for a homemade baby shampoo to try as well. The thought that her shampoo could damage her eye sight bothers me more than a little.
This should be an interesting adventure! Have you made your own Homemade Beauty products so far? How did they turn out?

We are a very frugal family. We make our cleaning solutions but never tried homemade shampoo. Thank-you for sharing the recipe.
I have been wanting to find other ways to clean our hair too. Along with other home cleaning solutions. And from all the different “recipes” it seems easy enough. As well as a whole lot cheaper. And we really need cheaper
I haven’t made my own shampoo either, but it would be interesting to find out how well it works out. I actually love reading about home remedies and do it yourself solutions although I’ve never tried any myself other than using vinegar to clean. Interesting post, thank you!
Now this sounds interesting! I just started making my own soaps and I think shampoo is next! Thanks for the link!
Super helpful! I need to get some shine back into my dry and damaged hair..
Very interesting. I went no-poo for a while. I was thinking about trying it again. I don’t remember why I went back. There’s a simpler recipe here if you want to try it. http://www.naturallivingmamma.com/2013/01/21/easy-natural-diy-shampoo/ I haven’t tried it yet but I may.
Where would one even get all the ingredients to make this? Prakaksi oil? Phenoxyethanol?
