How to: Baby Name Letter Blocks

Baby Name Letter Blocks

When I was putting Keira’s nursery together I knew I definitely wanted her name somewhere – possibly in the form of decorated letters.  Nothing really seemed unique enough or quite what I was looking for so I decided to make my own cute little baby name blocks with the letters of her name.

What you need:

2″x2″ wooden blocks (I got mine at Michaels)
Scrapbook Paper Sheets (The thicker paper sheets are best.  Avoid thin sheets and card-stock.)
Pre-cut Wooden letters  (Michaels has some but you can get bags of letters at Walmart)
Acrylic Paint
Modge Podge in Matte

How to:

Use the wooden blocks to create a pattern.  I found it easiest to cut two strips the same width as the block.  One of the strips was 3 squares long and the other strip was 4.5 squares long.

I first used the modge podge to glue down the shorter strip.  For the longer strip I glued it down running the opposite way starting with the .5 a square so that it overlaps at the end.

Following the Modge Podge directions allow to completely dry.  While the blocks are drying paint your wooden letters with the acrylic paint.  Allow to dry.  I made enough blocks to do 2 sides but you can do just 1 side or all sides.

When the blocks are dry cover with a layer of Modge Podge then set aside to dry.  Once dry do another layer of Modge Podge.  When dry use Modge Podge to glue the painted letters to the blocks.

Cute! I'm not very crafty, but I think I could actually make these! Would be great for the next grandchild.
